If only life came with a college survival guide. Most Fridays you party to further exhaustion or find yourself lingering close to home. Its the weekend, but you feel like you’ve just ran a marathon. You feel run down, barely able to make it down the stairs from your last class you just barely managed to stay awake for, let alone attempt to raise your hand for to participate. The pressure is on. You feel it all over your body and your mind is anxious one minute and you feel a heaviness and inability to concentrate or desire to go out and join your classmates for that late night party or music crawl. You thought you were already crawling to make it to your car across campus.
You thought college life would be exciting, freeing, and you would finally get to make your own choices. Be independent. Stand on your own. You quickly found that the workload kept you more in the books, writing papers, and cramming and all you wanted to do was slip into your pajamas and hide out. Act as though you missed the crowd heading out for the weekend. You just wanted to be alone. At times poke your head out and make a post on your social media or text to stay connected to the outside world. You dare not tell anyone you’re more spent than excited. More anxious than chill. More alone and increasingly emotionally drained and out of sync with your day and assignments. Barely active.
You thought this time in your life would bring discovery and freedom and you want to be unburdened and able to get up from under the cloudy days that make you feel disheartened and the idea of feeling this way makes you feel so unprepared for life and the future.
